Research Description

Dr. Lau's research focuses on language processing. How do we incrementally combine a sequence of language input in real time to arrive at the syntactic, semantic, and discourse-level representations intended by the speaker? Where does this process go wrong in patient populations that demonstrate comprehension deficits? She uses an array of reaction time and neurophysiological measures (EEG, MEG, & fMRI) to inform models of the computations and representations underlying sentence processing and the neurobiological implementation. She has a particular interest in the role of prediction in comprehension
